Description The content of the PMTQ is based on the common body of knowledge related to psychiatric music therapy assessment (Cassity & Cassity, 1994a).  Part I is a brief five-item music preference survey using five-point Likert scales.  Part II, Multimodal Problem Analysis, is a 75-item inventory designed to detect client problems that music therapists treat. Clients rate themselves on each item using five-point Likert scales ranging from Strongly Disagree (1) to Strongly Agree (5).  In Part III, Post Interview Observations, following the conclusion of the interview, the therapist rates the client on 15 behaviors that music therapists assess during activity therapy.  Following administration of the PMTQ, the therapist documents problem behaviors indicated by the PMTQ ratings, then selects music therapy interventions from the PMTQ manual (MPMT) that are appropriate for the individual client or group. Forms are provided to record the assessment results and to guide clinical intervention and evaluation.
