In October, the Centre for Cultural Psychology hosted a workshop “Cultural Psychology in Action! Applying Cultural Psychology to your research projects” for our Cultural Psychology MA students. The workshop was held by Kyoko Murakami (University of Westminster, UK) together with Carolin Demuth (AAU).
The workshop started with a brief outline of key principles of cultural psychology, followed by a student-led discussion in brainstorming their research ideas, its rationale and aims. They then worked in small groups on common themes and concepts in cultural psychology. The workshop ended with poster presentations of their research proposals for their MA thesis. The workshop was well received by the students. Some quotes from the evaluation:
“Loved the fact that we were asked critical but important questions in a constructive and helpful way! It was so nice to get ideas and inspiration (and actually also just general support) from you and Carolin and the other students, and equally nice to feel that perhaps also I was able to give some ideas to the other students as well! Very wholesome set up! :)”
“I appreciate the whole process, going from a somewhat vague idea/problem phenomenon towards a concrete research question and the methods that could be used to study it. The comments and suggestions were very insightful!”
“Very good learning experience. Murakami had a clear plan for the day. She created a very inspiring learning space.”
This was the 3rd time Kyoko Murakami offered this workshop for Cultural Psychology students and in light of the positive evaluation we will continue to offer this workshop on an annual basis.
